Cype's 2017, the 3rd annual coding competition for students in grades 5-8, will be held on Saturday, April 1 at the Eastern Senior High School. The event is open to any student who can type out a program in C++ . The organizing committee has high expectations of the event and looks forward to an entertaining day filled with learning opportunities and prizes. Prizes are contingent upon how many team members each team has. Teams should not exceed 4 people plus one computer. If you're interested please email Annie Fetsch (afetsch@publicschoolsfirst.org) by January 17th to register your team. There will also be an opportunity for each team to present its final solution to a panel of judges (including past winners) and the audience. Participants will be judged on the quality of their code, how well it performs, and how well they present their use case(s). The competition encourages students to apply what they've learned in their classrooms to real world problems. Students may work individually or as part of a team. All submissions must be written in C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition or later. Submissions should target Windows 10 but older platforms are acceptable if unavoidable. Length, execution time, and optimization level are optional; however, make sure to record your final submission. The best submissions will receive Judges' Choice Awards. The top three submissions in the following categories will also receive cash prizes: Most Optimized, Best Use of Limited Resources, and Grand Prize.
